On May 2, 2024 Mike and I departed for Kona, on the big island of Hawai’i. First we drove to Calgary at 1am and boarded our flight to Denver. We had a nice layover, with lots of time to get KFC meals and relax before our 7 hour flight to Hawai’i. The Denver airport was really cool! There were 3 large terminals, each accessible by an underground train system. Our gate changed a few times during our layover, so we took a few different trips on it.
After a few hours in Denver, our plane took us on the final stretch of our journey. During our flight we watched movies, read books and slept a bit here and there. The flight crew served us a chicken salad with fruit for lunch, and made sure we had lots of snacks 🙂
We finally arrived at the Kona airport in the mid-afternoon which was quite the experience itself! We exited the plane and walked to the gate, which was literally just an outdoor gate with some benches behind it. Then we picked up our baggage and waiting for our Uber to take us to our AirBnB up the hill. That night we ate subway and went to bed super early because we only got a couple hours of sleep on the plane.
