Road to Hāna

The Road to Hāna is one of Maui’s more popular attractions. It’s often said that an experience is about the journey rather than the destination, and this road really exemplifies this saying. While the town of Hāna itself is tiny and not all that interesting, the drive to get there is spectacular.

The road starts in the city of Kahului and runs along the island’s North coast to Hāna, passing through several small towns on the way. Although the road is only 100km long, the drive takes well over 2 hours, assuming no stops. The road winds along cliffs through the jungle. There are 59 bridges, most of which are just one lane wide. The road has tons of great views and waterfalls.

We took our time and made lots of stops. Once we reached Hāna, we turned around and headed back the way we came. Rather than going home, we decided to round the day out with an evening on the beach. Despite the high winds we had a great time! Everyone went straight to bed once we got home though, one can only take so much driving in one day
