Surf, Beaching, and Pizza

On Thursday we started our day bright and early with an hour at Māmala Bay. One of my (Hanna) goals on this trip was to learn how to surf, and I finally did it! My instructor Jake made my experience fun and easy—he was encouraging and made the steps of standing up super straightforward!

I successfully rode a wave on my second try! And after about 4 or 5 waves, Jake didn’t even give me an extra boost, I just paddled myself and caught it 🙂 Surfing is definitely one of my new favourite activities, and I hope to do it again whenever I can.

My first successful wave 🙂

After an hour-long lesson my arms were dead from paddling so much! We coasted back to shore and rinsed off the boards and everything to end the session. My family then took a short Uber trip over to Ala Moana Beach Park to spend the day by the water. The sand there was very fine, and we got lots of swim time! Nearby was a lagoon protected by a man-made stone wall where we swam and snorkelled as well.

Swimming in this heat can be very tiring here… so we had a beach nap too 😅

Once we were done by the water we were very tired! So with the theme of Hawai’i in mind, we ordered pizza to our room and watched the movie “Moana”. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza and a Cheeseburger pizza, which were delicious. Then we went to sleep after such a big day 🙂
